VHPA donates Hindu literature to Bhutanese refugees

Houston saw another batch of Hindu Bhutanese refugees arriving from troubled area at Nepal – Bhutan Border (Asia). The recently arrived batch of comprised eight men, two women and two children.

Bhutanese refugees have travelled a long way from Bhutan to Unites States after severe human rights violation in Bhutan (Bhutanese Government has asked non Bhutanese ethnic groups staying at Nepal-Bhutan border to leave the country - these people are ethnic Nepalese), following which UN stepped in and multiple countries including US, European Union and Australia offered asylum to these Bhutanese refugees.

VHPA has a program dedicated to helping Bhutanese Hindu Refugees arriving in USA.

Under ‘Ashraya’ project, VHPA helps in providing food, clothing, electronic items and literature on Hindu Dharma.

VHPA donated books of renowned Hindu scholar Swami Vivekananda - Selections from Complete work of Swami Vivekananda. Also, books published by VHPA ‘Chaitanya Bharati’ and VHPA quarterly magazine ‘Hindu Vishwa’ were distributed to the people during the event. A brief introduction on Swami Vivekananda and his great contribution to the Hindu society was also provided commemorating his 150th birth anniversary. Narain Rai, 40 said, “I appreciated VHPA efforts in distributing Hindu Dharma literature as this will help us update our knowledge on Hindu Dharma and allow channels to network with fellow Hindus and news about Hindu organizations‘programs in USA”

Information on VHPA and its projects was also shared. Later sweets were distributed to celebrate Holi.

These recently arrived Bhutanese need help in buying clothes, kitchen utensils, electronic items, groceries and books in Hindi and Nepali language. If you would like to help them in Houston area, please contact Rahul Chandra – rahul.chandra@vhp-america.org. Also, VHPA can assist and plan an event for donation.
