Indian officer rebukes Delhi's claim of Nepal Maoist training Indian rebels
Telegraph Nepal
One of the high-ranking officials of India's Central Intelligence Bureau (CIB) has ridiculed the allegation made by his own government that Maoists in Nepal were providing training to the Indian Maoists.
The Kantipur Daily dated November 15, 2010 reports quoting local newspaper in Siliguri India "The Himalaya Darpan" as further quoting the Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Banibrata Basu, a Bengali, who said that the allegation was not based on facts.
Basu who is also serving the Intelligence Bureau in North Bengal addressing a gathering of local intelligence operatives and high ranking police officials however said that though the Maoists were trying to use the residents along the border to increase their influence in India but they have remained unsuccessful so far.
Surprisingly, the report also says that the IB official, Basu, at the program affirmed that the agency will support the repatriation move of Bhutanese refugees from Nepal refugee camps.
"The officials have decided to exert diplomatic pressure on Bhutan to accept repatriation of Bhutanese refugees living in Nepal", the report further reveals.
Analysts in Nepal opine that the days of Mr. Basu in the current post stand numbered.
Mr. Basu has very effectively rebuked his own government claim that Nepal Maoists were providing training to their Indian counterparts.
Himalayan courage.
