Japanese NGO assists refugee education program in Nepal(Kyodo) _
Shinnyo-en, a Japanese non-governmental organization, has provided $38,462 this year for primary education for children of Bhutanese refugees in Nepal, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees said Wednesday.
Shinnyo-en has been supporting the refugee education program in seven UNHCR-run camps in east Nepal since 2001.
The refugee agency provides international protection and assistance to some 106,000 Bhutanese refugees who have been living in Nepal since 1990.
The Nepalese and Bhutanese governments have had 15 rounds of negotiations to return the refugees to their homeland in Bhutan, but without success.
